What is a voter initiated and binding referendum? A voter initiated and binding referendum is a way for the average person to have a direct say on the changes currently being proposed for the new constitution or, on any other issue which the people consider to be of national importance. This might include the proposed dredging in the North Sound for example. The people could have a referendum without first having to ask politicians for permission and the politicians would have to accept the democratically expressed wishes of the people. Why should you support a referendum? At a very basic level each resident on the islands would like a constitution in place that adequately addresses his/her own personal needs. The final decisions made regarding this constitution will have a lasting effect on our lives as well as that of our children and future generations. The overall well-being of our country's ability to continue along a path of sustainable development that will be beneficial to the vast majority of its residents will only be made possible if the majority of people have a say in the final version of our constitution. Also, in the Vision 2008 Report, the majority of people asked for it! What is maladministration? Maladministration means poor or failed administration. This occurs if an institution fails to do something it should have done, if it does it in the wrong way or if it does something that ought not to be done. Some examples are: Administrative irregularities Unfairness Discrimination Abuse of power Lack or refusal of information Unnecessary delay What is a voter initiated and binding recall? A recall is the right of the People to end the employment of their elected representatives, and at the same time vote for a new MLA to represent them in the Legislative Assembly. The use of recall might range from maladministration to politicians committing crimes or, failing to represent the views of their constituencies on issues which the people consider to be of national importance, for example.

How can we get referendum and recall?
- For it to work, it must be included in the new constitution. We must tell our MLAs that we want referendum and recall included in the new constitution.
- Tell all your friends about this website.
- On Election Day, only vote for those candidates who publicly promise you their support for referendum and recall.
